Eco-Solutions is run by a small team of people with over 60 years experience in the coatings removal and paint stripping industry. In the words of the founder, Ivor Chivers:

"There were no clean and safe alternative products to the hazardous solvents available which were effective enough to be used in for daily paint stripping and coatings removal, so we took a gamble and developed our own. Today Eco-Solutions markets the safest alternative to solvent-based strippers; all our products are water-based and do not harm either users or the environment."

The product range has had very enthusiastic reviews in the general press, do-it-yourself magazines and industry-specific publications. Furthermore, we are proud to be one of the select few companies to have received the prestigious Millennium Product Award sponsored by the British Government.

Unlike the major competitors, who have just replaced one hazardous solvent, i.e. methylene chloride (DCM) with another solvent.

A classic example is the raw material NMP (N-methyl pyrrolidone) which was marketed by our competitors as the safe alternative to methylene chloride – which is the most common solvent in traditional paint strippers. This raw material we tested and dismissed as damaging to human health over 10 years ago. However, the marketplace has a considerable number of products – from leading brands – with this raw material as its main ingredient.

In fact the EU Commission legislated on this raw material and NMP is now re-classified as a repro-toxin and will carry the risk phrase “Can cause damage to the unborn child”. Therefore a highly dangerous product for use in the home and/or by pregnant women.

Therefore, in order to educate consumers, professional users and industry as to the dangers of solvent-based paint strippers we became founder members of European Association for Safer Coatings Removal. For further details visit www.eascr.org
